FREE? What do you mean Free? What's the deal, the catch,
the hook???
All ads for businesses and individuals in the Chesapeake Bay Region
or ads that benefit users in the region can be posted at no charge.
Classifieds are FREE
for Chesapeake Region businesses and individuals.
What about people
outside the region?
We have taken care to
block most foreign IP addresses that have been the root of
international Internet fraud and spam. When any of those ads
get through, we track the IP address and block it, then remove the
ad. We also block anyone from a banned IP address from
responding to your ads with spam messages (like the wife of that
dead rich guy overseas who wants you to help her move a million
dollars to your bank account - yea...right). See
Overpayment Scam
Avoidance.
If an ad posted from a
permitted IP address has benefits to people in the Chesapeake Bay
region, it may be allowed to stay posted. We do reserve the
right to remove any ad for any reason (see
Guidelines and Disclaimers).
Is this site used to
collect names for SPAMMING?
NO. You have to
enter your email account only to ensure that you get responses to
your ad. You may elect to have your name placed on a mailing
list at the time of registration. This email list is used ONLY
by Chesapeake Bay Market to inform users about updates or issues
with Chesapeake Bay Market. It is used judiciously, and not
very often - probably only a few times a year. You can also
remove your email account from this list via email at any time. We
do not sell or release your email or our mailing list to anyone.
Are you giving away
free classifieds just to get folks to shop at
http://shopping.ChesapeakeBayMarket.com ?
Honesty being the best
policy...YES. However, this is good for those posting free
classifieds. Every shopping page has links back to the free
classifieds. People who may have not known about your ad, but
have connected through a search engine to the shopping site also
means additional potential traffic to your ad - even from people
outside the Chesapeake region.
It is also good to note
that 10% of all our book sales go to
First Book, a national
nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from
low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new
books.
Sales of other
products help with our contributions such as the Susan G. Komen
Foundation as well as the Chesapeake Bay Trust.
