To prevent access to the Chesapeake Bay Classifieds from mass
advertisers, scammers, and those involved with scams and fraud, we
have set up IP blocks to block particular IP addresses, mostly from
overseas and from areas known for spam advertising as well as online
overpayment scams.
If, when trying to post
an ad, or even to search ads you get an error that looks like
this...
FORBIDDEN
You do not have access to this area
...and you feel that you
should be able to post this ad, please
contact us. It would be helpful to have us know your IP
address to see if it is one that we block. Actually, to
protect your privacy we only need a part of your IP address.
An IP address is
assigned to your computer as well as your Internet provider's server
that allows you access to the Internet. Depending on whether
you have dial-up, satellite, or cable, there are still ways to
determine your IP address. For DirecWay customers, we already know
that we do not block the DirecWay provider IP address.

Select network
connections

Right click on the
connection service you are using to access the Internet then
select STATUS

Click the DETAILS tab
on the status box. At the bottom you will see your IP
address and a server IP address.

Provide us with at
least the first 2 octets of each (that is likely to be the
same for both). An octet is formatted xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, so
your IP address may be something like 123.110.211.10 as an
example. Sending us the first two octets means that you will
send 123.110 so we can see if we are unnecessarily blocking you.
Be aware to that you may
have firewall setting on your own computer that may prevent you from
gaining access to the classifieds. be sure to have your
firewall accept the address
